The vast majority of us don’t think twice when going about our day-to-day business. We go through our routines largely unimpeded and able to make changes to it without much second thought or consideration. We’re ready to react to changes in our day with relative nonchalance without having to think for too long about the consequences. This is something that we, largely, take for granted.

Allergens

But for some people, they’re living with a condition which can make a change of plans a nightmare or they have to do so much planning for the simplest of things that it puts them off doing it entirely. This condition is something almost half of the world’s population is living with: an allergy. But how exactly does an allergy have such a significant impact on day-to-day life, and what can be done to make life easier?

Food Allergy Testing

Food allergy testing is the most accurate and efficient way to discover whether you’re living with an unidentified allergy. With extreme outcomes of an allergic reaction being potentially fatal, it is essential to be aware of your personal allergies. Your allergist may recommend allergy tests, such as a skin test or blood test to determine if you have a food allergy. In an allergy skin test for food, a very small drop of a liquid food extract, one for each food needing to be tested, is placed on the skin. The skin is then lightly pricked. This is safe and generally not painful. Within 15 to 20 minutes, a raised bump with redness around it, similar to a mosquito bite, may appear. This test shows that you are sensitized to the food and probably allergic to that food. A sensitivity to a food can be indicated in a skin prick test or a blood test, but does not always show a true allergy unless there has been a previous reaction to the food.
